Not Just ANY Key l Pieces of Me l Kari Dawson Photography

Kari Dawson Photography

Key: a means of access control or possession. This is a key. It’s the key to my husband’s new Allstate office. It isn’t just a key, it isn’t just a key to an office. A key can also be defined as, a notched and grooved, usually metal implement that is turned to open or close a lock. No, not just any key but the key to our future. I’m overwhelmed
with pride for my husband. For his guts, for his faith, for his trust in the Lord, for his ambition, for his means to access, control, and possess our future.

Isaiah 22:22
I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.

My Tyler Goes to Homecoming l Pieces of Me l Kari Dawson Photography

*sigh* My baby boy went to his first homecoming this weekend and really it was his first date ever. I really didn’t expect to allow him to go and if you asked me three years ago if he’d have his first date at the age of fourteen and I would have told you, you were out of your mind. We have consistent discussions with Tyler about the approriateness (is that a word?) in relationships at this age and I trust him completely. Because he talks to me, because he tells the truth, because he’s honest if he thinks he may have pushed the limits, and because the conversation is always ongoing. It seems like just yesterday the hubs and I went to my homecoming senior year. At the risk of being completely honest and taboo for those who don’t “know” me, in this image, Tyler was the bun in the oven. Huh! Pregnant your senior year! Yes people and he’s an angel like child who has my trust and with the Lord’s leading, we’re doing a fine job I might add.

Don’t even laugh! You know I’m brave and I deserve mad props for even sharing this image. You know you have one just like it! Maybe some 80′s bangs???

Tyler had this notion, maybe because he’s surrounded by so many ladies in his life: between mom, grandma’s who spoil him, and having four sisters, that the entire day should have been all about him. There was carpet cleaning and rearranging going on in the basement. I was scrubbing down the bathroom and trying again to get those darn white tiles to actually look white again. And, the rest of the house cleaning to conquer. I did my best to keep the boy busy with his own room and chores for the day but it didn’t stop him from reminding me multiple times throughout the day to remember we needed to grab the corsage at 3:00 p.m., he needed a hair cut, he needed his shoes polished, don’t forget about the corsage, press my suit, tie my tie, and don’t forget about the corsage! We had such a great time teasing him but honestly once all was said and done and we wandered outside to get a few pictures of him, I can’t lie, I cried. I could cry now. Tyler is adjusting so well to high school, his confidence is through the roof, and if we’re not careful his head will get so big he won’t be able to carry it above his shoulders. Tyler is a good boy, like really a good boy. He’s earned our trust. He doesn’t have free reign, we still have rules and boundaries in place but we have loosened the reign just a tiny bit and he’s proven himself. I really couldn’t expect any more from him. I’m blessed!

Maybe I’m not the most highly suited judge but he is just so darn good lookn’! He gets his looks from me, no?

The boy took two, yes two ladies to dinner and paid for both. Not because he’s all that, but because Christina’s date isn’t. Ladies, teach your boys to be gentleman please. We do however need to make a trip back to Olive Garden and find Diane because the boy did forget to leave a tip. sheesh!

life’s moments l {Flosky Family} l Southeastern Michigan Family Photographer l Kari Dawson

The Flosky family and I met up at Wolcott Mill where the property is just beautiful but little did we know that it was a mosquito haven! By the time we finished I literally had mosquito bites to remove from each image of the kids; poor little guys. Carolyn and Mike you and the boys were a dream to work with and I appreciate you braving the mosquitos for a bit :) You might remember their out-take from a bit ago here.

This is such a funny shot because dad put little Jaden up there next to the boys that were already in position and Jaden didn’t stay put. I said “just let him be because he’ll have to turn around to get down and I’ll get him.” Ha, lil’ stinker crawled backward to get down the stairs and never let me see his cute face for this one. Carolyn (mom) and I got a little laugh about it because I was out-smarted by a 14-month-old.
