it’s time to open the presents

Every year I choose paper for each child specifically based on what I like err… their interests. Or, what I like.

Mallory is really into Zebra’s this year and I hit the jackpot with shiny, thick, zebra paper. Faith’s was uber cool as well being the teal snake skin paper that it was.

The little ones still get to Santa Shop so the big ones get to shop for each other and the little ones. This year, the highlight was absolutely the Captain America underoos Kar scored for Ty!

Mal’s American Girl. She’s only been waiting four years!

Speaking of paper… wrapping fail!

Faith finally made it to her ipod touch.

You know this is good when all five kids are diving together into a couple of boxes. Giant soccer nets. Yes nets, as in plural. And even better they’re in my basement. So I officially, hold on I have to duck…, share an office with a makeshift indoor soccer field. Thanks mom!

Merry Christmas!

christmas at the dawson’s

Being the creative type that I am, I get bored looking at the same thing all the time. Christmas decorations are my saving grace every year. It’s that time of year when I have too much time on my hands to think, watch HGTV, and shop. Lethal combo. Add Pinterest to the mix and I’m quickly thinking about how to redesign every room in the house. So Christmas couldn’t come at a more perfect time every year. Instead of buying new furniture and hanging wall paper, I go nuts with all things that sparkle.

The pink Christmas tree is a coveted family item. I don’t know how I ever got lucky enough to end up with it. It evolves a little year to year and it’s perfectly acceptable for you to be jealous.

I do have a chocolate and blue scheme happening in our great room so my everyday pieces get a little sparkle too.

And I might have just a hint of OCD and require balance. I can’t have just a pink tree. The tree has to included the other colors in the room. And the room has to include the colors in the tree. So we spread some pink around. The wish thing… it was a couple bucks.

Are ya picking up on the sparkle?

For those curious minds out there. I shot these with my Nikdon D700. I don’t own a Nikkor macro lens so I shot all of these with a Tamron 90mm macro lens. All the images were processed with MCP’s Lightroom Presets.

pieces of me

Photos are just a single outlet for me to express myself and my creativity. I’m quite fond of creating an environment at home that reflects my family. A place that is warm and comfortable. A place where guests feel welcome and cozy. A place to looks and feels pulled together with two scoops of crazy and a side of coo-coo-cachoo because that’s just who we are. For nearly two years I couldn’t stand being in the room I share with Todd. It’s supposed to be a place you enjoy, rest, and rekindle no? Tough to do when you had the room’s guts. So I TRIED to create a space for both of us. I LOVE and NEED light so I wanted it to look and feel bright, fresh and clean and appeal to both of us with the perfect mesh of masculine and feminine. fail. It’s a lot more me than it is Todd but he loves me soooo! So, he doesn’t mind.

You may have caught the mobile pic of my work in progress and all it’s awesomeness…

and drum roll please…. ta da!
Photobucket

For those who have seen the rest of our home a couple things become clear with the re-do of my bedroom. A. I’m addicted to wallies. B. Blue and brown seem to be the only color palette.
Photobucket

I have a thing for books, birds, owls, and kitch like a magnifying glass I have no real need for.
Photobucket

I love the subtle pops of red. I’m in love with this side table. The horse… well I had to have something masculine for the hubs.
