thank god for hearts that race, after 19 years!

For the last twenty-four hours my heart has been racing, stomach in knots, palms slightly damp, and I’ve been on the verge of breaking out into a cold sweat and hives simultaneously. Todd’s off to Chicago for ten days.

I remember what it felt like when we first started dating back in 1776. Okay, I exaggerate but he’s literally been the center of my universe since I was fifteen years old. It felt quite the same actually. Racing heart. Lump in my throat. Butterflies. So many I thought I might vomit. Tension so thick we could cut it with a knife. My nervous thoughts so loud in my head I panicked he might hear them too. I would intentionally leave my left hand slightly pulled away from my body pleading with God he’d prompt him to hold it.

And, not since the first time he sang UB40’s cover of ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ have we been apart for ten days.

soul food friday

“The happiness of your life depends on the quality of your life.” Unknown. One of my new year’s resolutions is to get a grip on my train of thought. I hope I’m not alone in admitting I often let my thoughts beat me up. I like my pretty reminder. Happy Friday!

This shot is one of my recent favorites from my January photo-a-day challenge. I’ve been pretty good about getting my shots but not so good at getting them off my camera and ready to share. I will say though the challenge has forced me to take a minute every day and thoughtfully and creatively pursue a truly great shot. It has been a gratifying process and one that has allowed me to slow down a little and enjoy small moments and little things with my children that might ordinarily go unnoticed. When I started to think about what I wanted to call this series of images I didn’t know how truly fulfilling the project would be. For me, it is indeed… soulfood.

my blushing brides and dapper grooms 2011

I love watching my brides and grooms transition in front of my camera. In the first few moments of being shot alone they each often own a bit of bashful nature. I love those moments because if I see it, it’s part of you. Then you all gain confidence and just go on with your bad selves!
